Humble Beginnings

Sometimes, amazing things come from the most unlikely beginnings. In 1934, a clam diver in the Philippines was harvesting his crop when, diving below the waves, he spotted a clam larger than any he’d ever seen. He dragged it onshore and, when opened, it revealed a pearl. Not just any pearl – this one was over 9 inches in diameter and weighed 14 pounds. It remains the largest pearl in the world and is worth an estimated 60 million US dollars.
